We have officially been in our new home for a month. I still have a load of boxes to unpack, which will hopefully be done this weekend. Who knew it would take this long. I haven’t really shown many pictures, yet! It is a work in progress, but I promise I will share along the way. Of course I knew it wouldn’t be a case of walking straight in and being happy with everything, baby steps I keep telling myself. For someone who is slightly impatient, I am finding the baby steps hard.

Firstly I would really like to sort out the flooring. Just now we have carpets! I haven’t lived with carpets for so long, it’s really hard to adjust. The only good thing is that they are new carpets, so I can live with them for a little while longer, while I think of what I would like done. We aim to start downstairs and work our way up… In a mad, I need to see what is under the carpet, at the weekend; I discovered that the floorboards seem in all right condition. Good sand and they will be good as new, hopefully. The only concern is the draft from the floorboards, so we will need to either restore and fill and then sand. Depending on the condition I am hoping to leave them bare or even white wash very lightly, something a little different from the flat. If that all fails, then it will be hunting for the perfect laminate wooden floor. I am still yet to find a shade/wood finish that I am happy with.

After the flooring is ticked off the list I would really like to look at the kitchen and replace the kitchen worktop. I am lucky to have white kitchen cabinets and not a bad kitchen; I just don’t like the laminate wooden worktop. I am happy to replace with a nice white worktop for the time being as we have some big to extend, meaning bigger kitchen!

I am completely aware that all this takes time, say in a couple of years, maybe more. But you can imagine that I have been pinning away kitchen ideas! There are so many different options and so many things I haven’t even considered like taps, handles on doors, no handles? Oven built into the wall? We are a long way off from narrowing down the small ideas, but one thing I would like to sort out is the softness of our water. I have being doing a little research and when we come to renovate the kitchen I would like to look into getting a drinking water softener fitted, all you need to do each month to maintain is add salt to the water softeners. It’s the smaller details I want to make sure are just right. With so many ideas in my head I think after the New Year I will use this space to show all my findings, good products that I have found and maybe you will like them to. Maybe you are also in the middle of a renovation and we can share ideas and new findings.
